As we move deeper into October, the days grow shorter, the air turns cooler and the year’s end begins to come into view. If you’re feeling a mix of accomplishment […]

As we move deeper into October, the days grow shorter, the air turns cooler and the year’s end begins to come into view. If you’re feeling a mix of accomplishment and unfinished business, you’re not alone. This is the season when many of us pause to wonder: Is it too late to make progress? Should I just coast until January? Let me reassure you: it is never too late to realign, recommit, and finish strong. October is such a beautiful time for reflection and renewal. The energy of summer has faded, but the pace of the holidays hasn’t yet arrived. It’s a natural pivot point; a moment to ask what you want these final months of the year to feel like. If you’ve been following along with my blog, we’ve spent the past few months reflecting on growth, gratitude, and self-care and most recently, we took time to Harvest our Wins. Now, as the leaves fall and the air shifts, it’s time to move from reflection to intention.

Recommitment, Not Perfection

Recommitment isn’t about pushing harder or catching up. It’s about doing what matters. It’s not about hustle, guilt or chasing perfection. It’s about realigning with your purpose and giving yourself permission to begin again. Maybe there’s something you started earlier in the year that deserves one more try. Or maybe your priorities have changed, and it’s time to release a goal that no longer fits. I’ve been there more than once, realizing that the thing I was chasing no longer aligned with who I was becoming. Letting go wasn’t failure; it was an act of grace that opened space for what was next.

If you’ve felt behind, remember what we explored in From Perfectionist to Progress-Seeker: Embracing the Imperfect Journey. Growth is not linear. Every step forward is a step toward the life you’re building. Recommitment means meeting yourself where you are, not where you think you should be. It’s choosing progress over pressure, alignment over achievement.

Choosing What Still Matters

Take a moment and ask yourself: What do I most want to experience before this year ends? What would make me proud when I look back on 2025? You don’t need a dozen goals. You only need one or two that truly resonate; the ones that light a quiet spark inside you. The rest can be released with gratitude.

A few years ago, I learned the power of releasing what no longer serves me. I had a business goal that looked great on paper but felt completely off in practice. Once I let it go, I found room for something more authentic and energizing. Sometimes the real breakthrough comes not from doing more, but from letting go and making space to breathe.

Small Steps, Big Shifts

If that spark feels dim, start small. Micro-goals and mini-habits can help you regain momentum when energy feels low. I’ve written before in The Power of Tiny Steps about how ten minutes of focus a day can create lasting change. Whether it’s a quick journaling ritual, a weekly walk or reaching out to a friend, small steps add up. One of my favorite practices is a “three wins a day” reflection which is taking a few minutes each evening to acknowledge progress, no matter how small. Those moments remind me that growth is still happening, even in seasons of transition.

Finding Focus and Support

If you’re feeling distracted or uncertain, you’re not alone. This time of year can stir both reflection and fatigue. That’s why having a structure, even a simple one, helps. For me, recommitment often begins with a reset moment, where I pause, breathe, and ask what I want to feel by year’s end.

That’s what inspired the Reset & Reignite Masterclass. It came out of one of those very moments when I felt stretched thin and needed to recenter before moving forward. In that workshop, I guided participants through exercises to help them identify what’s fueling and what’s draining their energy, realign their goals with their capacity, and use gratitude as a growth tool. You can still experience the impact of that session through the Reset & Reignite Momentum Pack, which includes limited replay access, a 30-day printable planning journal and a coaching-style email series to help you stay focused, inspired, and aligned with what matters most.

A Ritual for Recommitment

If you’re ready to refocus, here’s something simple and grounding. Write a letter to your future self dated December 31, 2025. Describe how you want to feel as this year ends, what you’ll be proud of, what you’ve learned and what you’ve let go of. Then tuck it away and set a reminder to read it at on New Year’s Eve. It’s a gentle, personal way to stay connected to your intentions. Or, if you’re a visual person, create a “last quarter” vision board. Gather images, words, and phrases that capture how you want to close the year. Let it be a reflection of who you’re becoming.

Flowing Into What’s Next

As we move toward the year’s end, remember that every step forward is an act of courage and self-leadership. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You only need to keep showing up for yourself. Give yourself permission to realign, recommit and finish this year with clarity, confidence and grace. Next month, we’ll turn toward gratitude and reflection as we prepare to close out the year together. Until then, keep tending to your growth. You are worthy of a strong and intentional finish.

As you close out this year, what intention are you recommitting to and how will you honor that commitment to yourself in the weeks ahead? I’d love to hear your reflections in the comments below.

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, October feels like a natural invitation to pause and reflect. There is something about this season, with its golden light, the scent of the earth and leaves and gentle winding down, that calls us to take stock of what we have planted, tended, and grown. The year’s final quarter offers us space to breathe, to notice and to celebrate what has taken root in our lives; even if it looks different than what we envisioned back in January.

Perhaps this year has been full of bold steps forward or maybe it has been a quieter season of inner work and personal transformation. Maybe you began with clear goals, only to realize that your journey had its own rhythm. Wherever you find yourself, this is your moment to harvest the lessons, growth and grace that have been growing all along.

Why Reflection Matters

Reflection is one of the most powerful tools we have for personal growth. It allows us to make meaning of our experiences, to see patterns in how we show up and to recognize the resilience we often overlook in the rush of daily life. October offers a gentle reminder to slow down before the year’s final stretch. It invites us to pause long enough to see the ways we have stretched, evolved, and stayed the course. This kind of intentional reflection isn’t about perfection or achievement; it is about awareness and appreciation. It reminds us that growth happens in the moments between our big wins, in the choices we make quietly and in the lessons we learn when plans shift.

Throughout this year on my blog I have explored how courage fuels confidence, how hope sustains us through transition and how growth often begins with belief in ourselves. I have talked about course correction, about the power of letting go and about reigniting purpose when burnout tries to dull our spark. Now, in this season of gathering and gratitude, it feels right to pause and honor the ways those lessons have taken root.

Guided Reflection: Harvesting Your Wins

I invite you to take a few moments for yourself this week. Find a quiet space, pour your favorite fall beverage, and bring your journal or simply sit with your thoughts. Consider these prompts as a way to reflect on how this year has unfolded for you:

• What am I most proud of accomplishing since January?
• What unexpected lessons or strengths have emerged?
• Where did I pivot, and what did I learn from it?
• What small wins deserve celebration?
• What am I ready to release as the year winds down?

As you move through these questions, notice what feelings arise. Notice where gratitude appears naturally and where resistance lingers. Reflection is not about judging what has or has not been done. It is about acknowledging what is, the courage it took to keep going, the effort behind each decision and the grace in simply continuing to show up.

If you find yourself craving a deeper space to reflect, my Personal Retreat Guide is a resource created exactly for that. It offers gentle structure, journaling prompts, and practices to help you slow down, reconnect, and listen inward. Whether you take an hour or a weekend, this intentional pause can help you see your growth with fresh perspective.

The Value of Imperfect Progress

It is easy to measure progress by what we can check off a list, but some of the most meaningful growth happens quietly. Maybe you learned to set a boundary that once felt impossible. Maybe you asked for help when you normally would have carried everything alone. Maybe you simply learned to rest without guilt. Those are wins worth celebrating. Progress is not always a straight path. Sometimes we take a step sideways or even back, only to find it gives us a better view of where we are meant to go next. The truth is, imperfect progress is still progress. Every pivot, pause and redirection teaches us something valuable about who we are becoming.

When I reflect on my own year, I think about the moments that stretched me most; times when I had to trust that slowing down would not mean losing momentum. There were projects that unfolded differently than I expected, but in that space, I found clarity and creativity. The lessons were not always easy, but they were necessary. They reminded me that growth often shows up disguised as change.

If this year has felt more like steady planting than a full harvest, trust that the seeds you have sown are doing their quiet work beneath the surface. You may not see all the results yet, but that does not mean progress is not happening.

Gratitude as a Growth Practice

Reflection naturally leads us to gratitude not the surface kind that skips over struggle, but the deep gratitude that comes from seeing meaning in our experiences. Gratitude grounds us. It reminds us that growth is not measured only by outcomes, but by awareness, perspective and grace. Take a moment to name three things you are grateful for this year. Maybe it is a renewed sense of courage, a relationship that grew stronger or simply the resilience to keep showing up through uncertain seasons. Let that gratitude soften you. Let it shift how you see your progress. Gratitude also helps us close chapters with peace. As the year winds down, allow gratitude to help you release what no longer serves you. The act of letting go; whether it is unrealistic expectations, old fears or the need to have everything figured out; makes space for what is next to take root.

Creating Space to Reflect and Reconnect

If you are feeling the pull to go deeper, I encourage you to create a personal retreat moment for yourself. This does not require travel or elaborate planning. It can be as simple as setting aside a morning or afternoon to pause and breathe. The Personal Retreat Guide offers a framework for doing just that. It includes prompts, reflection exercises and gentle encouragement to help you quiet the noise and listen inward. Whether you spend two hours or two days, the time you give yourself to reflect is never wasted. It is how clarity, confidence and renewed purpose take form.

A Season of Acknowledgment

October reminds us that reflection and renewal can happen side by side. It’s a time to celebrate how far you’ve come while staying open to what’s next. It is also about integration, gathering the wisdom from all that has unfolded and preparing to carry it forward. You do not need to have it all figured out. Growth rarely happens in a straight line and success is not measured by how perfectly everything unfolds. What matters is that you keep choosing to grow, to reflect, and to remain open to possibility. This is your season to honor your journey. To acknowledge how far you have come, even if you are still becoming. To see the courage, confidence, and hope that have carried you to this moment.

As you move through this month, I invite you to reflect: What lessons or wins are you harvesting from this year so far? What wisdom do you want to carry with you into the next season of your growth?

Take time to celebrate those answers. You deserve to honor the progress that brought you here.

Can I be honest with you about something? I have been there. Staring at goals that once excited me and feeling nothing. Going through the motions of activities that used to bring me joy and wondering where that spark went. Wondering if my sense of purpose had slipped away or if I was simply moving through a season of change.

If this resonates with you, if you are reading this and thinking, “Yes, this is exactly where I am,” I want you to know something important. Your spark is not gone. It is not broken. It is not lost forever. Sometimes it is just buried under the weight of exhaustion, overwhelm, and the relentless pace we have been keeping.

August carries an interesting energy. Summer is still here, yet we can feel the shift coming. Kids are preparing for school, fall projects are on the horizon, and there is an underlying pressure to make the most of these final weeks of summer. But what if, instead of pushing through, we used this time to gently tend to the flame within us that has been flickering?

In my last post, The Art of Letting Go: Summer Decluttering for Mind, Body and Soul, I shared how releasing what no longer serves us makes space for what truly brings us alive. This week, I want to build on that idea by exploring what happens when we realize our spark feels dim and how we can gently tend it back to life by reconnecting to purpose.

Understanding the Summer Slump

First, let us normalize something. Feeling burned out or disconnected in the middle of the year is incredibly common. We begin January with fire and determination. We push hard through spring, trying to keep the momentum going. By midsummer, many of us hit a wall.

This is not failure. This is human.

Our bodies and souls move through seasons just as nature does. Sometimes we are in a season of growth and high energy. Sometimes we are in a season of rest and restoration. And sometimes we are in that tender space between seasons, not quite dormant but not yet fully alive. That is okay too.

What I have learned through my own seasons of disconnection is that trying to force excitement usually backfires. I have learned that passion can ebb and flow, but purpose is the thread that carries me through. When I have felt disconnected, it was not about forcing myself to be excited again. It was about returning to my “why,” my sense of purpose. That is what steadied me until the spark returned.

Instead of pushing ourselves harder, we need to approach ourselves with the same gentleness we would show a dear friend who is struggling. If you’ve read my post on optimizing your strengths, you know that connecting back to what energizes us is a powerful way to find direction. The same applies here.

The Difference Between Rest and Burnout

Before we talk about reigniting your spark, it is important to distinguish between needing rest and experiencing burnout. Rest is restorative. Even when you are tired, there is still a sense of yourself underneath. You can find joy in small moments, still feel connected to your values, and imagine feeling excited about things again.

Burnout feels different. It is the emotional exhaustion that makes everything seem gray. It is cynicism about things that once mattered deeply. It is feeling disconnected not just from your work, but from yourself.

If you are in true burnout territory, please be extra gentle with yourself. The strategies I share here will still help, but you might need additional support from friends, professionals, or simply more time than you expect.

Small Ways to Tend Your Inner Flame

Start with curiosity, not pressure. Instead of asking, “Why do I not feel passionate about anything?” try asking, “What would feel nourishing right now?” Sometimes it is not about doing more, but about creating space for your soul to breathe.

Return to your values. Sometimes the flame feels dim because we have drifted from our purpose, the deeper meaning that fuels us. Reconnecting to your values and your “why” can shift everything. What principles have guided your best decisions? What do you stand for when everything else is stripped away?

Pay attention to what catches your eye. Notice what makes you pause while scrolling social media, what articles you save, what conversations energize you. Your soul leaves breadcrumbs that point you back to your purpose.

Try the “5 percent better” approach. Instead of expecting to feel completely renewed overnight, ask yourself what would make today just a little more aligned with who you want to be. Maybe it is five minutes of creativity, reaching out to someone who inspires you or simply sitting outside without your phone.

Practical Steps to Reconnect with Purpose

Create a purpose inventory. Make a list of what has ever felt meaningful, even if it feels distant now. Include childhood dreams, past hobbies, career aspirations, volunteer experiences, travel destinations. Do not judge what comes up. Just capture it.

Experiment with micro-explorations. Choose three things from your inventory and spend just fifteen minutes exploring each one this week. Read an article, watch a video, visit a website, or simply daydream about it. This is not about commitment. It is about giving yourself permission to explore.

Connect with purposeful people. Energy is contagious. Spend time with people who are excited about their calling or the work they love. Their enthusiasm can remind you of what alignment feels like and awaken the possibility within you.

Document small moments of meaning. Notice throughout your day when you feel even slightly more alive or more grounded in your values. Write these down. Over time, you will see patterns that guide you toward deeper alignment.

Give yourself permission to evolve. What once felt meaningful may not fit this season of your life, and that is perfectly natural. The goals that once energized you may no longer align with who you are becoming. That is not loss, it is growth. Purpose does not stay frozen in time. It expands as you do.

Working Through Purpose Blocks

“I do not have time.” Begin with five-minute investments. Can you read one page while drinking coffee? Listen to a podcast on your commute? These touches with meaningful things can open doors to bigger shifts.

“My purpose does not feel practical.” Who says it has to be? Purpose is about meaning, not productivity. Some of the most soul-nourishing pursuits have nothing to do with career advancement.

“I am scared I will fail.” What if success was not the goal? What if the aim was simply to experience the joy of trying? Exploration itself is a form of alignment.

“I do not know what my purpose is anymore.” That is okay. Purpose is not always a lightning bolt. Sometimes it reveals itself slowly, like a steady light that grows brighter the more attention you give it.

Your Spark Reignition Plan

Think of purpose as the compass that guides your spark. Sometimes it blazes brightly, sometimes it glows quietly, and sometimes it feels like it has gone out. But even when the flame seems faint, there are always embers waiting to be stirred back to life.

It begins with noticing what feels nourishing right now. Maybe it is laughter, a conversation that lifts you, or a curiosity that keeps tugging at your thoughts. These are your kindling.

Allow yourself to experiment gently. Try one small thing that feels aligned. Not because it has to be big, but because it invites you back into exploration.

And then, give your spark room to breathe. Share what inspires you with someone you trust. Celebrate even the smallest flicker. Let it be enough that you are tending to yourself with care. Over time, those embers grow into a steady flame that feels both new and familiar.

The Truth About Reconnecting to Purpose

Purpose is not a one-time discovery. It is something we live into, cultivate and realign with through attention and care. Passion may ebb and flow, but purpose steadies us when the fire feels dim.

Your spark may change, but your purpose remains. It evolves with you. When you reconnect with it, the flame does not just return, it burns steadier and brighter. Your spark may look different now. It may burn for different things or in different seasons. That does not make it less valuable. It makes it authentically yours.

Some days tending your inner flame looks like diving into a project with energy. Other days it looks like holding onto the faith that your spark will return. Both are valid. Both are acts of courage.

The Ripple Effect

When you reconnect with your own purpose, you give others permission to do the same. When you live with curiosity and alignment, you create space for those around you to do what lights them up.

Your purpose matters. Not only for what you may create or achieve, but for who you become in the process of honoring what is meaningful. The world needs people who are awake to their purpose, who tend their inner flame with care.

That person is you. That flame is yours. And it is never too late to add kindling.

What is one small way you could tend to your purpose this week? I believe in your ability to reconnect with what matters most, and I would love to hear about your journey.

Summer has this magical way of inviting us to shed what we no longer need. Maybe it’s the longer days that give us energy to tackle those neglected corners, or perhaps it’s the natural rhythm of the season that whispers, “It’s time to lighten your load.” Whatever it is, August feels like the perfect moment to practice the art of letting go.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially after our July conversations about realigning mid-year and having the courage to course-correct. While I was celebrating the wins and recalibrating my goals, I couldn’t ignore the weight of all the things I was still carrying that no longer served me. Old commitments that felt heavy. Mental loops that kept me stuck. Even physical items that cluttered my space and, honestly, my peace of mind. It turns out that giving yourself permission to realign isn’t just about adjusting your goals. It’s also about releasing what’s blocking your path to those goals. If you’re feeling that weight too, you’re not alone. And if you’re ready to create some breathing room in your life, let’s talk about decluttering not just our spaces, but our minds, bodies, and souls.

Why Decluttering Goes Beyond Your Closet

When we think about decluttering, we often picture sorting through clothes or organizing our desks. But true decluttering (the kind that transforms how we feel and move through the world) goes so much deeper. It’s about releasing the mental clutter that keeps us spinning in circles. It’s about letting go of relationships that drain rather than fill us. It’s about saying goodbye to commitments that were born from guilt rather than genuine desire to serve. This summer, I challenge you to think of decluttering as an act of self-respect. Every time you release something that doesn’t align with who you’re becoming, you’re making space for what does.

Decluttering Your Mind: Creating Mental Clarity

Start with your thoughts. What stories are you telling yourself on repeat that aren’t serving you? Maybe it’s “I’m not good enough” or “I should be further along by now.” Write them down. See them for what they are – just thoughts, not truths.

Practice the brain dump. Every morning for the next week, spend five minutes writing down everything swirling in your mind. Don’t edit, don’t organize, just dump. Then look at what you’ve written and ask: “What here actually needs my attention today, and what can I release?”

Curate your information diet. Unsubscribe from newsletters that stress you out. Unfollow social media accounts that make you feel inadequate. Your attention is precious – protect it like the valuable resource it is.

Create boundaries around worry. Set a timer for 10 minutes and allow yourself to worry about whatever is weighing on you. When the timer goes off, close that mental file and redirect your energy to something within your control.

Decluttering Your Body: Honoring Your Physical Space

Start small and build momentum. Choose one drawer, one shelf, or one corner of a room. As you sort through items, ask yourself: “Does this add value to my life right now?” If the answer is no, thank it for its service and let it go.

Apply the one-year rule. If you haven’t used something in a year and it’s not a sentimental keepsake, it’s probably time to release it. Someone else could benefit from what’s just taking up space in your life.

Consider your energy levels. Notice how different spaces in your home make you feel. Does your bedroom feel restful? Does your workspace inspire productivity? Sometimes we need to declutter not just things, but entire energy patterns in our environment.

Don’t forget your digital spaces. Clean up your phone’s photo library. Organize your computer files. Delete apps you never use. Our digital clutter affects our mental state more than we realize.

Decluttering Your Soul: Releasing What Weighs You Down

Examine your commitments. List everything you’ve said yes to in the past six months. Which commitments light you up? Which feel like obligations? It’s okay to gracefully step back from things that aren’t aligned with your values or season of life.

Evaluate your relationships. This doesn’t mean cutting people off, but it does mean being honest about which relationships energize you and which consistently drain you. You have permission to invest more deeply in relationships that are mutual and life-giving.

Release old versions of yourself. Who did you think you had to be to be accepted or successful? What expectations are you carrying that aren’t actually yours? Sometimes the most powerful decluttering we can do is releasing who we thought we should be to make space for who we actually are.

Practice forgiveness – especially self-forgiveness. What mistakes are you still carrying around? What disappointments are you replaying? Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting, but it does mean choosing not to let past experiences define your future possibilities.

Your Summer Decluttering Journey

Ready to put this into practice? Start with whatever area calls to you most – your mind, your physical spaces, or your soul. You don’t have to tackle everything at once. Sometimes the most powerful changes happen when we focus on one area and let that momentum naturally flow into the others. Consider creating a simple system for yourself: maybe it’s dedicating 15 minutes each morning to mental decluttering through brain dumps, or choosing one small space to clear each day. The key is consistency over perfection, and progress over pace.

The Freedom on the Other Side

Here’s what I’ve discovered about letting go: every time I release something that isn’t serving me, I create space not just in my physical environment, but in my capacity to show up fully for what matters most. When we declutter our minds, we can think more clearly and make decisions from a place of intention rather than reaction. When we declutter our spaces, we can breathe deeper and move with more ease. When we declutter our souls, we can love ourselves and others more freely. This isn’t about perfection or having a social media-worthy life. It’s about creating breathing room for your dreams, your relationships, and your growth. It’s about honoring the person you’re becoming by releasing what belongs to who you used to be. And speaking of becoming… once you create this space, once you clear away what’s no longer serving you, something beautiful happens. You start to reconnect with what truly lights you up. You begin to remember what brings you alive. Which is exactly what we’ll explore in our next conversation.

Your Turn

What’s one thing – a thought, a commitment, a physical item – that you know you’re ready to release? Start there. Start small. Start today. Remember, decluttering isn’t about having less for the sake of having less. It’s about making space for more of what brings you alive. And that, my friend, is worth celebrating. Here’s to creating space for all the beautiful things waiting to bloom in your life.

What will you choose to release this summer? I’d love to hear about your decluttering journey – share in the comments or reach out. You don’t have to do this alone.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about giving yourself permission to realign mid-year without pressure or guilt. Since then, I’ve been reflecting on what it really takes to make those mid-year adjustments. Here’s what I keep coming back to: It takes real courage to course-correct. Not just to acknowledge where you are, but to trust yourself enough to change direction when needed. There’s something powerful that happens when we stop pretending everything is perfectly on track and start embracing the truth of our actual journey. It’s messy. It’s human. And it’s exactly where transformation begins.

The Courage to See Clearly

In my work with leaders and through my own journey, I’ve learned that the most significant growth happens not when we have it all figured out, but when we have the courage to get honest about where we really are. Maybe you’ve discovered you’re further along than you thought in some areas. Maybe you’ve realized you’ve been chasing goals that no longer align with who you’re becoming. Maybe you’re somewhere in between—celebrating wins while acknowledging the areas that need attention.

Here’s what I’ve learned: It takes courage to honestly assess your year without the January optimism or December desperation. It requires you to sit in the space between where you thought you’d be and where you actually are—and find compassion for the person who’s been doing their best with what they had. But here’s the gift in that courage: When you can see clearly, you can choose consciously.

Self-Confidence as Your Course-Correction Compass

I recently wrote about self-confidence for Women Thrive Magazine, and preparing for July Masterclass deepened that perspective. I’ve realized something powerful: Self-confidence isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about trusting yourself to find them. The people who are ready to make changes aren’t the ones who have everything figured out. They’re the ones who trust themselves enough to pivot without shame. They understand that confidence comes not from perfection, but from believing in their ability to adapt and grow. When we lack confidence in our ability to course-correct, we stay stuck in goals and strategies that no longer serve us. We keep pushing forward with January’s plan even when July’s wisdom is whispering that it’s time for something different. But when we trust ourselves—our growth, our intuition, our capacity for change—we can ask the questions that matter:

“What would I do if I trusted my instincts completely?”

“Where am I giving my power away to perfectionism?”

“What would change if I celebrated progress over perfection?”

From Insight to Action: The Power of 90 Days

Instead of trying to salvage the entire year or overwhelming yourself with six months of catch-up, what if you focused on the next 90 days? There’s something magical about a 90-day window. It’s long enough to create meaningful change but short enough to maintain focus and momentum. This approach allows for what I call values-based pivoting. The most sustainable course corrections aren’t about forcing yourself back onto an old path. They’re about aligning with your evolving values and priorities.

Consider this: You can celebrate what’s working while adjusting what isn’t. You don’t have to throw everything out to make changes. Maybe you’ve been incredible at building your business but have neglected your health. Instead of feeling like a failure, you can celebrate your professional growth while intentionally designing your next 90 days to include more movement and self-care.

This is what I call the both/and mindset—honoring your progress while making space for growth.

Your Mid-Year Permission Slip

If you’re reading this and feeling ready to reassess, consider this your official mid-year permission slip:

Permission to change direction. The goals you set in January were based on who you were then. You’re allowed to honor who you’re becoming now.

Permission to be proud of unexpected progress. Maybe you didn’t lose the weight, but you learned to speak up for yourself. Maybe you didn’t write the book, but you deepened your relationships. Growth comes in many forms.

Permission to want different things than you did in January. Your desires are allowed to evolve as you do. What felt important six months ago might not align with your current priorities, and that’s not failure—it’s growth.

Permission to trust your growth journey, even when it doesn’t look linear. The most meaningful transformations rarely follow a straight line. Your detours might be exactly where your biggest breakthroughs are waiting.

Confidence in Action

Here’s what I know for certain: The person who started 2025 with you is not the same person reading this post today. You’ve grown, learned, and evolved in ways both big and small. That growth deserves to be honored, and it deserves to guide your next steps. Course-correcting is not failing. It is confidence in action. It is trusting yourself enough to adapt, grow, and choose again.

I recently led the Masterclass Reset & Reignite: Your Mid-Year Power Hour Plus, and I was so inspired by the honest reflections and powerful intentions that came out of that session. It was a reminder that we’re never alone in our desire to realign, and that meaningful change begins with a single courageous step.

If today’s message resonates with you and you’re craving more support, there’s still time to access the full experience through the VIP Momentum Pack. It includes the replay of the live session, a printable monthly planning journal, and a five-part coaching-style email series to help you reflect, reignite, and stay grounded in what matters most. This bundle is available through August 12. Get the VIP Momentum Pack for $49 and give yourself the time, space, and tools to reset with clarity and purpose.

The rest of 2025 is waiting for the person you are becoming. Not the version of you from January, but the version who has grown and learned in the months since. That person is wiser, stronger, and more aligned than you may realize.

What will you choose to honor about your growth?
And what will you choose to adjust to support who you are still becoming?

What’s one area where you’re ready to trust your instincts and course-correct? Share in the comments. Your courage might be exactly what someone else needs to see.

It’s June, and the energy is shifting.

We’re halfway through the year, and maybe that hits you in one of two ways: a gentle nudge or a sharp jolt. You might feel pride for what’s taken root or frustration that things haven’t quite bloomed the way you imagined. Either way, this moment is not the end of the road. It’s a powerful invitation. It’s halftime. It’s your chance to pause, breathe, reflect, and recalibrate.

And I want to be clear: recalibration isn’t about regret. It’s about realignment. It’s how we make sure we’re not living on autopilot. That we’re not chasing someone else’s version of success. That we’re not moving just for the sake of movement.

When You Don’t Feel on Track

It’s easy in a season like this to default to self-judgment. Maybe you had big plans for the year. Maybe you mapped out goals back in January with clear action steps and intentions. But somewhere between the busyness of life, unexpected challenges, and the mental fatigue that builds over time, things slipped. That doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re human. And it means now is the perfect time to pause and check in—with grace, not guilt.

I’ve watched this pattern play out in my own life and in the lives of the women I coach. We start the year with such clarity and intention, but life has a way of pulling us in directions we didn’t anticipate. A family crisis emerges. Work demands increase unexpectedly. Our energy shifts in ways we couldn’t predict in January’s optimism.

Here’s what I’ve learned: the gap between where you thought you’d be and where you are isn’t a measurement of your worth—it’s data. It’s information about what you need, what’s working, and what needs to shift.

One of the best practices I’ve built into my own rhythm is the midyear reset. Not because I love structure for structure’s sake, but because I know how quickly I can lose touch with what actually matters to me. A midyear reset gives me a checkpoint. A place to ask better questions. A chance to not just “keep going,” but to move with clarity.

Let me be honest—some years, by June I’ve already revised my goals more than once. I’ve learned to see that not as inconsistency, but as growth. As information. As discernment. As a decision to stay in alignment rather than push toward something I no longer want or is no longer serving me.

The Cost of Not Reflecting

What happens when we skip the pause? When we push through without checking in? We become strangers to ourselves. We find ourselves six months deeper into patterns that don’t serve us. We wake up in December wondering how we got so far off course, feeling like we’ve been living someone else’s life.

I see this especially with high-achieving women who are so used to pushing through, to making things work, that they forget to ask whether the things they’re making work are still worth their energy. The promotion they were chasing feels empty now. The routine that once energized them has become a cage. The goals that felt inspiring in January now feel like obligations.

This is why reflection isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. It’s how we stay connected to our own evolution.

Reflection Is a Leadership Skill

Whether you consider yourself a leader or not, reflection is one of the most powerful tools you have. It sharpens your awareness. It helps you name your patterns. And it offers space to honor both your wins and your wounds.

One thing I teach in coaching (and remind myself of constantly!) is that you can’t shift what you’re unwilling to see. Without reflection, we’re just reacting. But with it, we’re responding—with intention.

Here’s what my own check-in process looks like this time of year:

I revisit my original goals and ask, Do these still matter?

I look for unexpected wins; progress I didn’t plan but am grateful for.

I give myself permission to release goals that no longer feel aligned.

I name the hard stuff, too—the things I’m still struggling with, the places I need support.

I celebrate the woman I’ve become in the process, not just what I’ve accomplished.

It doesn’t have to take long. But it does require honesty.

The beauty of reflection is that it creates space for both celebration and course correction. It allows you to acknowledge how far you’ve come while also being honest about where you want to go next.

3 Midyear Reflection Prompts

If you don’t know where to start, let these three questions guide your process:

What’s working that I want to continue? Identify what’s bringing you energy, clarity, connection, or peace. What habits or practices are helping you move forward? This isn’t just about productivity; it’s about what’s nourishing your soul. Maybe it’s the morning walks you started in March. Maybe it’s the boundary you set with a difficult relationship. Maybe it’s the creative project you’ve been slowly nurturing.

What’s not working that I need to release or revise? Be honest: What’s draining you? What’s distracting you? What’s no longer aligned with your season or values? Sometimes what’s not working isn’t necessarily “bad”; it’s just not right for who you’re becoming. This requires courage because it might mean letting go of goals that once excited you or commitments that no longer fit.

What am I craving more of and how can I make space for it? This one’s powerful. It points you toward your next right step. Not just what you should do, but what your soul is quietly asking for. Maybe you’re craving more creativity, more rest, more adventure, more depth in your relationships. Listen to that craving; it’s wisdom speaking.

These prompts aren’t meant to overwhelm. They’re meant to open something up. Sometimes, I’ll journal my responses. Other times, I talk them out with a friend or coach. What matters most is making space for the questions and listening for your answers.

Recommitting Doesn’t Mean Starting Over

Once you’ve reflected, the next step is to recommit with intention. This isn’t about pushing yourself to “do more” or hustling to catch up. It’s about choosing what matters most and showing up for it.

Remember that conversation we had in the last blog post about reclaiming the season and finding your confidence in the summer shift? This midyear reflection is the natural next step in that journey. If you felt the pull to step into summer with more intention, this is how we make that sustainable. And if you missed that post, go back and read it HERE; it’s the perfect companion to today’s reflection.

We’ve also talked earlier last year about progress over perfection in March and turning vision into action in April this year. Now it’s time to build on all of that foundation.

You might recommit by:

Resetting your boundaries so your time and energy reflect your values.

Choosing one goal to gently reengage with.

Creating a daily or weekly ritual to reconnect with yourself.

Saying no to what no longer fits, even if it once did.

Adjusting your approach to honor who you’re becoming.

You don’t need to do everything. You just need to do the next thing. For me, recommitment often looks like simplification. Not adding but subtracting. Not striving but aligning. It’s noticing where I’ve drifted and gently steering myself back.

One Gentle Invitation: If you’re craving space to reflect, reset, and reignite your goals for the rest of the year–without pressure–I’d love for you to join me for something special. I’m hosting a free midyear masterclass to help you recalibrate with clarity and momentum. Click HERE to save your spot. (Just name and email—no fuss.)

Let This Be Your Turning Point

Recalibration is an act of self-leadership. It says, “I’m not giving up; I’m tuning in.”

It’s not flashy. It won’t always get applause. But it’s the quiet, powerful work that leads to deep growth.

The second half of the year doesn’t have to feel like catching up or making up for lost time. It can feel like stepping more fully into who you’re becoming. It can feel like finally moving in the direction that makes sense for your life right now.

So, here’s your permission slip: You don’t have to wait until next year to begin again. You don’t have to scrap the plan to write a new one. You just have to pause long enough to hear yourself again.

What’s one thing you’re releasing—and one thing you’re recommitting to—for the second half of the year? Share in the comments or journal it for yourself. Either way, I hope you choose to rise—on purpose.

Summer has a way of catching us off guard. One minute you’re fired up, full of plans and purpose. The next, you’re two weeks deep into summer mode wondering, “Where did my momentum go?”

The sunshine, longer days, social invitations, and looser schedules can bring a beautiful sense of freedom. But they can also create a subtle sense of drift. Suddenly, the structure that supported your growth earlier in the year feels blurry. You’re juggling joy and obligations, but your inner fire starts to dim. That’s when confidence gets shaky. So, what do you do? You reclaim the season.

This isn’t about pushing harder or forcing productivity. It’s about tuning in to the rhythm of summer, staying anchored in your purpose, and showing up with confidence—even when your routine shifts. Let’s explore how.

When Seasons Change, So Should Your Strategy

Summer is not the time to abandon your goals. It’s the time to adjust your approach. We often talk about growth as a straight line, but real growth happens in seasons. Winter is for rest. Spring is for planting. And summer? Summer is for tending. It’s a time to check in on the seeds you’ve sown and make sure they’re still getting the sunlight, nourishment, and care they need to thrive. (If you need a refresher on setting intentional goals, revisit this post on turning vision into action to realign your focus.)

Ask yourself:

What version of me is showing up right now?

What’s changed about my energy, responsibilities, or environment?

Where does my confidence feel strong, and where does it need reinforcement?

Summer doesn’t require the same pace. But it does require presence.

Confidence is Built in Small, Brave Choices

We tend to think of confidence as something big and flash; speaking on a stage, launching a new venture or taking a leap. But real confidence is often quiet.

I can’t even fully recall all the details of last summer—but I do remember this: I wasn’t fully present. I wasn’t overbooked, but I also wasn’t tuned in. I stayed in motion, assuming that meant I was making progress. But eventually, I realized something important…Confidence isn’t about doing everything. It’s about choosing the right things. It’s built in the everyday moments when you:

Say no to an invitation that drains you.

Wake up 15 minutes earlier to reconnect with your goals.

Reclaim your boundaries, even if it’s awkward.

Make that doctor’s appointment, finish that resume, or open the blank page to start writing.

These aren’t dramatic acts, but they’re bold. Every small decision to honor your purpose is a vote for your self-trust. And when you build self-trust, confidence follows. If you’ve been navigating confidence-building from a deeper place, you might also enjoy this earlier post on the courage-confidence connection, which explores how both grow in tandem. Let this be your reminder: you don’t need perfect conditions to show up. You just need to choose yourself, again and again.

Reframe Summer as a Season to Step Forward, Not Just Step Back

There’s nothing wrong with slowing down. Rest is a requirement, not a reward. But stepping back doesn’t mean disappearing. In fact, when everyone else is coasting, summer can become a powerful time to realign with your boldest goals. Here’s how to show up intentionally:

1. Choose Your Summer Word – Pick one word to define how you want to move through this season. Maybe it’s ease, visibility, grace, or focus. Mine this year? Visibility. I want to be seen, heard, and fully present in the spaces that matter most. Write your word on a sticky note, set it as your phone wallpaper, and let it guide your decisions.

2. Schedule Joy, Not Just Tasks – Confidence blooms when we feel fulfilled, not just busy. So, alongside your meetings and deadlines, block time for things like the following: solo date or creative outlet, weekly self-care ritual or time to do nothing—without guilt. This isn’t about balance. It’s about alignment.

3. Protect What Grounds You – Even when your calendar shifts, your values don’t. Keep at least one daily or weekly anchor that makes you feel steady. That might be journaling, prayer, movement, meditation, or checking in with your coach or accountability partner. These small practices remind you: You’ve got you.

Confidence Deserves Consistency, Not Perfection

One of the most damaging myths I see—especially among women in leadership or service-based roles—is that confidence should be automatic by now. That if you’re experienced, you shouldn’t struggle with doubt or momentum. But confidence isn’t a badge you earn once. It’s a practice. You can build that practice with intention—this piece on discipline and consistency lays out a simple strategy.

Some days, your confidence will roar. Other days, it will whisper. The important thing is that you stay in relationship with it.

Your Invitation to Reclaim the Season

Summer can be sacred.
It can be restful and powerful.
It can be both a pause and a launchpad.

You get to decide how this season serves you.

So I’ll ask you:
Where do you want to show up more boldly this summer?
And what’s one aligned action you can take this week to back yourself with confidence?

If you’re ready to reflect more deeply and realign with purpose, I invite you to download the Personal Retreat Guide—a free, self-paced tool designed to help you slow down, check in, and move forward with clarity and confidence. Whether you use it for a solo morning reset, a weekend of reflection, or a midyear mindset shift, it’s a practical way to nourish your confidence and recommit to yourself.

Let this be the summer you honor your energy, protect your peace, and say yes to your growth.

Because you don’t need the perfect plan.
You just need the power of your next step.

In my last post, we explored the power of hope and how it fuels growth. Hope allows us to believe in what’s possible, but without action, hope alone is not enough. To bring our dreams to life, we must pair that hope with intention, strategy, and follow-through. That’s where goal-setting comes in—not just any goals, but intentional goals that align with our values and purpose. Setting goals is more than writing down a to-do list or making vague resolutions. It’s about creating a roadmap that leads to meaningful progress. I’ve learned this firsthand in both my career and personal life—without clear goals, it’s easy to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about the next step. But when we set intentional goals and take purposeful action, we create momentum that propels us forward.

I remember when I launched Mission ENSPIRE, a vision that had been in my heart for a while. The idea of stepping out as an entrepreneur and creating a platform that empowered women and nonprofit leaders was both exciting and terrifying. I questioned whether I was truly ready, whether I had the resources, and whether people would see the value in what I was offering. But I knew that if I waited until I felt fully ready, I would never take the leap. So, I set an intentional goal: to officially launch, establish my services, and build a community of support. Taking that first step was daunting, but each milestone—from my first client to my first workshop—helped reinforce that this was the path I was meant to walk. Looking back, I see how that one decision transformed my confidence and leadership in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Why Intentionality Matters in Goal-Setting

Many people set goals, but not all goals lead to real change. The difference lies in intentionality—the conscious decision to pursue a goal because it aligns with your deeper purpose. Intentionality ensures that you’re not just busy, but productive in ways that matter. Think about a time when you set a goal but didn’t follow through. What happened? More than likely, it wasn’t because you lacked ability, but because the goal wasn’t deeply connected to what truly motivated you.

Characteristics of Intentional Goals:

They align with your values and long-term vision.

They challenge you to grow while remaining achievable.

They have clear, actionable steps.

They allow flexibility for learning and adjustment.

Intentional goals help us focus on what truly matters instead of getting caught up in distractions or societal expectations. As Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Aligning your goals with a deeper purpose brings clarity and direction.

Overcoming Common Roadblocks to Taking Action

Even with the best intentions, we all face challenges when trying to achieve our goals. Here are some of the most common roadblocks and how to overcome them:

Fear of Failure – Many people hesitate to take action because they fear making mistakes. But failure is not the opposite of success—it’s part of the journey. Instead of seeing setbacks as signs to stop, view them as opportunities to learn and adjust.

Reframe your mindset: Instead of saying, “What if I fail?” ask, “What can I learn from this experience?”

Scriptural encouragement: Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” Let faith guide your steps.

One of the biggest roadblocks I faced was fear of failure when stepping into public speaking. I have always felt comfortable facilitating and training, but when I was asked to speak at a major event, self-doubt crept in. Would my message resonate? Was I qualified enough? That fear nearly held me back, but instead of letting it paralyze me, I broke the goal into smaller, manageable steps. I practiced, sought feedback from trusted mentors, and reminded myself that I was called to this moment for a reason. The event was a learning experience for me. While I did okay, I realized there were areas I could improve. But instead of seeing it as a failure, I treated it as a steppingstone. It reinforced the lesson that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward despite it and learning along the way.

Lack of Clarity – If your goals feel overwhelming or vague, break them down into smaller, actionable steps. The clearer your goal, the easier it is to take the first step.

Practical tip: Use the SMART goal framework—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Procrastination – Sometimes, we delay taking action because we’re waiting for the “perfect” time. But progress isn’t about perfection; it’s about consistency.

Practical tip: Set micro-goals to build momentum. Commit to just five minutes of focused work, and you’ll often find it easier to continue.

External Pressures and Distractions – It’s easy to get sidetracked by other people’s expectations or daily distractions. The key is to regularly revisit your goals and remind yourself why they matter.

Practical tip: Create a vision board or journal to keep your goals top-of-mind.

Practical Steps to Move from Vision to Action

Define Your Why – Why does this goal matter to you? Connecting your goal to a deeper reason will increase your commitment.

Example: Instead of saying, “I want to get healthier,” clarify, “I want to improve my health so I can have more energy and longevity for my family and purpose.”

Write Down Your Goals – Studies show that people who write down their goals are significantly more likely to achieve them.

Tip: Keep your goals somewhere visible as a daily reminder.

Create an Action Plan – Break down your goal into smaller steps and set deadlines for each milestone.

Example: If your goal is to write a book, set a schedule for outlining chapters, writing drafts, and revising content.

Build Accountability – Share your goals with a trusted friend, mentor, or coach who can provide encouragement and hold you accountable.

Tip: Join a mastermind group or community where you can support one another.

Track Your Progress and Adjust – Regularly reflect on what’s working and what needs adjustment.

Journal prompt: What progress have I made in the last month, and what is my next best step?

Celebrate Small Wins – Acknowledge progress along the way to stay motivated.

Example: If your goal is to improve public speaking skills, celebrate each presentation or speech you complete, even if it’s a small one.

Faith and Vision: Trusting the Process

As you move from vision to action, remember that success is a journey, not an overnight event. There will be setbacks and moments of doubt, but perseverance is key. Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Trust that your efforts, when aligned with your faith and purpose, will lead to meaningful growth.

Putting Vision into Motion

Taking the first step can feel overwhelming, especially when we’re stuck in patterns of perfectionism or fear. That’s something I continue to work through myself—learning to embrace progress, not perfection, as I shared in From Perfectionist to Progress-Seeker. Growth doesn’t happen all at once; it unfolds in small, meaningful ways. Those micro habits, those tiny shifts? They matter. I wrote more about that in The Power of Tiny Steps, where I explored how even five minutes of effort can build the momentum you need. Pairing those small actions with courage, as discussed in The Courage-Confidence Connection, transforms hesitation into forward motion.

Throughout this past year, I’ve leaned deeply into intentionality, gratitude, and purpose—as reflected in Chapter 48: Embracing Growth, Gratitude, and New Possibilities. And at the core of it all is mindset. Positive Mindset and Growth reminds us that before we see change outside, we must nurture belief within. That’s why I’m inviting you to take one intentional step—just one—that moves you closer to the life you envision. Write the goal. Make the call. Show up. Let each action be anchored in belief and purpose. Because with every step you take, no matter how small, you’re building a life aligned with your values, your courage, and your vision. In the next post, we’ll explore how to deepen your self-belief and cultivate the mindset that carries you forward—even when doubt or fear show up along the way.

So tell me, what’s one step you can take today to move closer to the life you envision?

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2024, there’s an undeniable excitement in the air—a fresh chapter waiting to be written. A new year symbolizes potential, offering us the chance to start anew, pursue uncharted dreams, and make meaningful progress. Looking back on my recent post, “Chapter 48: Embracing Growth, Gratitude, and New Possibilities,” I reflected on the lessons I’ve learned and the milestones I’ve celebrated. It was a chance to pause, honor the past, and truly appreciate the growth that has come my way. And now, it’s time to turn those lessons into fuel for bold action. The question is: What bold steps will you take to shape your vision for 2025? Let’s explore how we can set ourselves up for a year filled with purpose, opportunity, and resilience, and make 2025 a year that truly reflects our dreams.

The Power of Vision

Great accomplishments begin with great clarity. Vision is the spark that lights the path to our goals, giving us direction and focus. Without it, we risk wandering through our days without a sense of purpose or fulfillment. When I launched this blog early in 2023, it wasn’t just about creating content—it was about connecting with you, my readers, and sharing tools to inspire both personal and professional growth. That vision of helping others achieve their goals kept me motivated even when balancing a full-time job with my entrepreneurial ambitions felt overwhelming. What drives me is knowing that every post, every interaction with you, contributes to a larger vision of empowerment and growth for you my readers. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, but taking time to clarify your vision can help guide you when the road gets tough. A vision gives you purpose, even when the path is unclear.

Tips for creating your vision:

Write it down: Spend time journaling about your dreams for 2025. What do you want to achieve? What will be the most fulfilling for you? This act of writing solidifies your commitment to the future.

Visualize daily: Create a vision board or use digital tools to keep your goals visible. Visualizing your success every day reminds you why your vision is worth pursuing. For me, creating visual reminders has been a powerful tool to keep my focus sharp.

Align with values: Your vision should reflect your core values. For example, my business is rooted in helping women prioritize their growth. When your goals align with what matters most to you, it’s easier to stay committed.

When you anchor your goals in a clear vision, it’s like having a North Star guiding you through each decision and challenge.

Preparing for Change

If there’s one constant in life, it’s change. And as uncomfortable as it can sometimes feel, embracing change is essential for growth. Whether it’s new career opportunities or unexpected setbacks, change is the gateway to transformation. Looking at 2024, I’ve been humbled by some of the opportunities that came my way—like the chance to facilitate training at the National FOC Convening in Mesa and learn from an incredible network of leaders in the field. I also had the unexpected thrill of riding in a driverless car, which seemed like a metaphor for how we can learn to embrace the future, even when it feels unfamiliar. This experience taught me that adaptability isn’t just about responding to external circumstances—it’s also about cultivating an openness to new possibilities. Reflecting on my own journey, I realized that change often comes disguised as discomfort. In the moments when I felt uncertain—whether about my business, my goals, or my own abilities—were often the moments when the most growth happened.

Strategies to build resilience and embrace change:

Set micro-goals: Instead of tackling massive changes all at once, break them into smaller, manageable steps. Small wins build momentum and confidence.

Reflect and adjust: Regularly check in on your progress. Ask yourself: What’s working? What isn’t? In 2024, I had to adjust my approach to podcasting and focus on the areas where I could give my best effort. Don’t be afraid to pivot.

Practice gratitude: Focusing on what you have instead of what you lack can shift your mindset. When challenges arise, embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning.

By preparing for change and staying flexible, we allow ourselves to grow in unexpected ways, even when the road ahead isn’t perfectly clear.

Taking Intentional Action

A vision is only as powerful as the action it inspires. The most successful goals are those that are rooted in intentional action—where each step we take aligns with our values and aspirations. For me, intentional action often means breaking down my big ideas into manageable tasks. Whether it’s launching a new product or hosting workshops, I’ve learned that progress isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment—it’s about taking that first imperfect step and building momentum from there.

In my own journey, I’ve found that tools like my Monthly Planning Journal have been essential for staying organized and focused on my long-term goals. When I first launched the Momentum Mastermind Set—a business tool bundle to help people prioritize their goals and track their success—it was a leap of faith, but the planning I put into it made the leap easier to manage.

Tools to support intentional action:

Plan with purpose: Use journals or planners to map out your monthly objectives and track progress. I’ve used my own tools to break down larger projects into weekly and daily action steps.

Set accountability measures: In 2024, I leaned heavily on peers and mentors to keep me grounded and focused on my entrepreneurial growth. Having a trusted support network has been crucial.

Celebrate small wins: Progress, no matter how small, deserves recognition. This mindset has been crucial in maintaining momentum, even during setbacks.

Action, no matter how small, creates momentum. When you commit to showing up consistently, you’ll be amazed at the progress you can make.

Embracing Community and Support

No journey is meant to be traveled alone. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in 2024 is the importance of community and the power of shared growth and support. Over the past year, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of connections—whether it’s reconnecting with my classmates at my high school reunion, meeting colleagues at the LISC Midwest Office Retreat, or attending the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference. These connections have given me new perspectives, support, and inspiration, making my journey feel less isolated and much more collaborative.

Ways to foster connections in 2025:

Attend events: Join workshops or conferences that align with your interests. For example, my participation in the Voices of Color Summit has been both a humbling and energizing experience.

Seek mentorship: Learning from those further along the path can fast-track your growth. Mentors have been invaluable in helping me refine my goals.

Be a resource: Building community starts with offering your own support and expertise. By serving others, you create a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration.

Community fuels growth, offering strength and perspective when we need it most. It’s about knowing that you don’t have to do everything on your own.

Conclusion: A Bold Call to Action

2025 is a blank canvas, brimming with possibility. The way you choose to fill it is entirely up to you. Let this be the year you dream bigger, embrace change with courage, and take intentional steps toward your vision. The future isn’t something to wait for—it’s something to create.

As this is my final post of the year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for being part of this journey with me. 2024 has been a year of growth, and I’m excited to see what 2025 holds for all of us. I’ll be back with my first post of the year in mid-January, where we’ll dive into new strategies and insights to start the year strong.

So, I’ll leave you with this: What is one bold action you will take to prepare for 2025? Share your thoughts in the comments, and let’s hold each other accountable for making 2025 our best year yet.

Hey there, friends! Jen here again with some more real talk on kicking procrastination to the curb. Did we have some lightbulb moments exploring that whole “finding your unique path” concept last time? I know I sure did! There’s nothing quite like stumbling on those personalized strategies that finally make everything click, am I right? Today, let’s talk about what I like to call the dynamic duo of actually sticking to those game-changing habits: discipline and consistency.

Confidence: The Ultimate Procrastination-Buster

I get it, for so many of us (myself included!), low self-esteem and procrastination are kind of an endless cycle. We avoid challenging things because we don’t feel capable, which then reinforces those crummy self-doubting feelings when we fall short. Talk about a vicious loop, am I right? It can really do a number on our mental health over time. But here’s the thing – cultivating authentic confidence is one of the most powerful antidotes to chronic procrastination. Knowing your worth and believing in your abilities to problem-solve removes so much of that initial hesitation around tackling tough tasks. You start seeing possibilities instead of roadblocks.

And it’s not just about feeling good, although that’s certainly part of it! Confidence also gives you the freedom to not take things so dang seriously all the time. You don’t have to be the best or smartest. You can embrace all the ups, downs, and messy middles of being human without it demolishing your self-esteem. So how do we start building up this ultra-effective procrastination kryptonite? I’m glad you asked! Here are three hot tips:

Stop the blame game: When self-doubt creeps in, it’s tempting to point fingers at others or your inner critic when challenges arise. However, by refusing to place blame, you release yourself to concentrate on finding solutions. Embrace responsibility for the aspects within your control, and witness how rapidly you transform into an unstoppable force.

Adopt an “I can!” attitude: Whoa there, feisty one! That negative self-talk trying to convince you something’s too hard? Give it a lil’ hair tousle and say “Pfft, I’ve got this!” Choosing to approach everything with a can-do spirit stretches you in the best ways. You’ll amaze yourself with what’s possible.

Rack up some wins: Nothing boosts confidence like checking things off the trusty to-do list, am I right? Make a point of following through on tasks to completion instead of leaving a zillion half-done things lying around. Wake up that unstoppable feeling by showing yourself what you’re capable of, one accomplishment at a time!

Self-confidence is such a gamechanger, my friends. Keep chipping away at those self-doubts by taking care of your self-esteem, and that nasty procrastination habit won’t stand a chance. Who’s ready to feel unstoppable?

Finding Your Inner Disciplinarian

You know what they say – discipline is a powerful thing! And I’m not just blowing motivational smoke here. Building true self-discipline is low-key one of the most transformative forces you can unleash in your life. Think about it – discipline is what allows you to push through challenges and resistance. To make wise choices that serve your greater goals instead of impulsive ones that derail you. To resist the endless temptations and cheap distractions that try to lure you off course. Without discipline, all the self-awareness and goal-setting in the world won’t amount to much. You might start svelte and motivated…only to watch those dreams slowly fizzle as your commitment wanes. Ugh, been there, am I right?

Building discipline is really about changing your habits – those subconscious behavioral patterns that can either undermine you or propel you forward with ease. By establishing new routines, setting up reminders and accountability systems, and celebrating small wins along the way, you’re essentially updating your brain’s programming. Over time, self-discipline starts feeling more natural, more hard-wired into your psyche. And those lingering inertia demons that used to stop you in your tracks get quieter and less powerful.

That’s why I challenge you to pick just ONE area of your life where you’d love to be more disciplined right now. Is it waking up earlier? Sticking to a workout regimen? Spending quality time on a personal passion project? Whatever it is, don’t aim for a massive overhaul just yet. Just a simple new habit, maybe something you can realistically pull off 2-3 times a week. Then watch what happens! Maybe you set a phone reminder to lace up for a walk after dinner. Or you make a checklist to follow each morning before heading to work. Or you use a habit tracking app to get satisfying burst of accomplishment every time you show up for yourself. Take those small, consistent wins and let them build momentum.

Another useful tool is journaling. The path to self-discipline is rarely linear, which is why journaling can be such a powerful ally. By taking a few minutes each day to reflect, celebrate small wins, and course-correct when you veer off-track, you’re actively reinforcing those new habits. Your journal becomes an accountability partner, a sacred space to work through resistance and realign with your “why.” Don’t underestimate the power of putting pen to paper, either. There’s something about physically writing out your thoughts, feelings, and commitments that encodes them deeper into your psyche. It’s a ritual, a practice in showing up for yourself consistently. Wondering how journaling can help beat procrastination?

The Pen(cil) is Mightier Than the Procrastination Monster

I know, I know – for some of you, that suggestion might elicit major flashbacks of being forced to keep a dear diary as a tween. Allow me to reframe this potent personal growth tool for you! Journaling is like having a totally judgment-free bestie to lean on whenever you need to vent, dream, or simply get your beautiful brainwaves untangled. It provides an outlet for processing all the thoughts and emotions that can so easily lead to stuckness and procrastination if left unattended.

But beyond that cathartic magic, journaling is also an A+ companion for mapping out your goals, breaking down overwhelming projects into smaller chunks, and celebrating every milestone along the way. It’s like a trusty trail guide leading you out of the procrastination canyon! Whether you use it to braindump your inner monologue, doodle your worries away, or meticulously bullet out your master plans, journaling empowers you to stay centered, intentional, and motivated as you forge your proactive path.

Maybe your journal becomes a sacred space to reiterate your deepest “why” whenever you feel willpower waning. Or maybe writing out a gratitude list reminds you of how far you’ve already come. However, you decide to leverage it, journaling is an incredibly powerful tool for both unearthing the roadblocks to your productivity and charting the way forward. Still don’t know where to start? Grab my Monthly Planning Journal which is packed with prompts, goal-trackers, and creative exercises, it’s designed to be the ultimate self-reflection and productivity tool. With the self-awareness from journaling combined with the steadfast discipline we’re building, that proactive lifestyle is finally going to feel unshakeable!

The Proactive Pathway

Whew, what a journey we’ve been on this month, my Flourishing Fiercely readers! From debunking those pesky procrastination excuses to leaning into discomfort, building rock-solid discipline, and unlocking the power of self-confidence, we’ve covered serious ground. But now, as we approach the finish line of our “Procrastination” series, I hope one thing has become glaringly clear: embracing a proactive lifestyle isn’t just some lofty aspiration reserved for a select few high-achievers. Nope, this is a mindset, a way of being that’s available to every single one of us.

It starts with having the courage and self-assurance to stare down those fears and doubts that so often fuel our procrastination. To silence the inner critic whispering “you’re not good enough” and replace it with an unwavering belief that you’ve got this. From there, it’s about taking that self-confidence and channeling it into sustainable habits and routines that become your productive default. Not just white-knuckling it through sheer force of will, but systematizing discipline into your daily existence. Setting reminders, celebrating small wins, and showing up for yourself consistently.

And let’s not forget one of the most powerful tools in our arsenal for manifesting that transformation: the humble journal. By taking a few minutes each day to reflect, realign, and capture our commitments in writing, we’re actively reinforcing those new habits and growth mindsets. Your journal becomes an accountability partner, a sacred space to work through resistance and celebrate your small wins. It’s where the “Future You” takes shape through intentional reflection and goal-setting. Where the path to a more positive, productive lifestyle gets inked out, one day at a time. So, keep that journaling practice top of mind as we transition into our next monthly theme…because surprise! We’re going to be diving deep into the art of journaling itself. From practical tips to creative prompts, we’ll be exploring all the ways this simple ritual can level-up our self-awareness, mindfulness, and overall wellbeing. Show up as your best self, day after day. All that’s left is to walk through, with your head held high and journal in hand. Are you with me?

We’ve all been there – staring at a growing to-do list, feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed, our productivity grinding to a halt. Procrastination has a way of creeping up on us, hijacking our best intentions and derailing our progress. But what if I told you that escaping this vicious cycle is not only possible, but within your grasp? That with the right mindset and actionable strategies, you can reclaim your momentum and start making meaningful strides towards your goals?

In today’s blog post, we’ll embark on a step-by-step journey to break free from the shackles of procrastination and reignite your inner drive. No more making excuses, no more self-sabotage – just practical, proven techniques to get you back on track.

You Can’t Change What You Won’t Acknowledge

You see, most of us procrastinators are experts at hiding our behavior and making excuses when it’s called out. We’re like magicians, distracting ourselves with all sorts of activities to avoid the tasks we know we should be doing. But the truth is, procrastination is an avoidant behavior – it’s triggered by the emotions we associate with certain responsibilities, whether it’s fear, overwhelm, or just good old-fashioned aversion.

Even when people do admit to procrastinating, they don’t always get to the root of why they do it. Is it a deep-seated fear of failure? A lack of confidence in your abilities? Perhaps a stubborn streak that makes you resist anything you don’t enjoy? Whatever the reason, simply raising the white flag isn’t enough to help you stop and become more proactive. That’s why the first essential step towards breaking free from the procrastination cycle is getting real with yourself. It’s about shining a spotlight on the underlying issues that drive your avoidant behavior, so you can start addressing them head-on.

Now, I know this can be an uncomfortable process. Reflecting on our shortcomings and blind spots isn’t exactly fun. But I promise you, it’s the only way to make lasting change. Whether it’s through journaling, enlisting the help of a trusted friend, or even working with a coach or counselor, getting to the root of your procrastination is crucial. Because here’s the thing – you can’t change what you won’t acknowledge. But when you do shine that light, when you start to uncover the real reasons behind your avoidant habits, that’s when the transformation can begin. It’s not easy, but I can tell you from experience, it’s so worth it.

So, my fellow procrastination-fighters, let’s dive in. Let’s get real, get vulnerable, and start uncovering the truth about why we do what we do. Because the path to progress begins with self-awareness. Are you ready to take that first step?

Procrastination to Progress: The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything

Now let’s tackle one of the trickiest parts of this whole “getting stuff done” thing – shifting from procrastinator to proactive powerhouse. I know it can feel like you’re walking down a road you’ve never been on before, the scenery completely unfamiliar. Without a map, it’s easy to just start guessing your way forward. But I’m here to tell you, with the right mindset and a few strategic flips of the switch, you can absolutely make this transition. Because the truth is, being proactive isn’t about superhuman powers or having it all figured out. It’s all about how you view the world, and the choices you make day-to-day.

One of the biggest hurdles I see for my clients is that FOMO (fear of missing out) mentality. They see every new opportunity as something they can’t pass up, regardless of how it might distract them from their priorities. Sound familiar? Well, it’s time to flip that switch, my friends. Start analyzing how adding something new to your plate might derail the progress you’ve already made. Is this new activity or commitment really worth sidetracking yourself? Learn to say no, or at least postpone, until it truly aligns with your schedule and goals. Trust me, your future self will thank you.

And then there’s that whole “obligation” trap. When we say yes to things out of duty rather than true desire, it can create this nasty cognitive conflict that just makes us want to procrastinate even more. The solution? Flip the switch from obligation to priority. Get crystal clear on what’s most important to you. What are the non-negotiables, the things you’ll give your all to? Once you know your priorities, it becomes a whole lot easier to set healthy boundaries and skip the activities that don’t serve you.

You see, it all comes down to a shift in mindset. Proactive people don’t fear saying no – they know it’s the key to avoiding burnout and over-commitment. They have a strong sense of self, and they’re not afraid to honor their needs, even if it means disappointing others from time to time. My Flourishing Fiercely Friends, I know this transition isn’t easy. Undoing years of procrastination habits and people-pleasing isn’t something that happens overnight. But I promise you, with the right strategies and a willingness to flip those switches, you can become the focused, productive, and proactive rockstar you’re destined to be.

So, are you ready to stop guessing your way forward and take the wheel? Let’s do this thing!

Small Steps to Proactive Mindset

To get you started, here are three simple changes you can make today that will help cultivate a more proactive mindset:

Eat that frog first thing. This classic productivity tip comes from a Mark Twain quote about getting your biggest, toughest task done very first thing in the morning, while your energy is high. That way, you’ve already achieved something meaningful before the day gets away from you. Knocking out your personal “frog” early sets the tone for a proactive, purposeful day.

Make a plan for tomorrow today. Failing to plan really is planning to fail, isn’t it? Taking just 5-10 minutes in the evening to map out your priorities for the next day puts you in the proactive driver’s seat. Break bigger goals down into specific steps, and you’ll wake up knowing exactly what you need to accomplish.

Solve one nagging problem. We all have those little issues or obstacles that keep tripping us up and preventing forward momentum. Get proactive by picking one and making some headway on a solution, even if it’s a small step. Actively chipping away at problems puts you in a problem-solving mindset.

These are just starting points, but being proactive is a lifestyle. It’s about taking ownership over your days, weeks, and goals through conscious choice and action. Be patient with yourself as you build this muscle!

I’ll leave you with a personal story that really resonated with me recently. At a professional development summit, there was a session called “Worthiness Within Your Wardrobe” that got me thinking more intentionally about my personal style. Now, reflecting on fashion and self-expression through clothing is pretty new territory for this typically low-maintenance gal! But the session went so much deeper than just outfits, nudging us to explore our confidence, purpose and self-love. It challenged me to get proactive about cultivating the life – and personal presence – I want to put out into the world. So I’m a work in progress, just like you! But I’m committed to getting proactive, one purposeful choice at a time. Let’s do this together, shall we?

Forging Your Unique Path to Productivity

The truth is, while there are some universal principles around procrastination and proactivity, we all need to find our own individualized solutions. What works amazingly for your coworker or family member might completely miss the mark for you. And that’s okay! The key is getting curious about yourself and seeking out the specific strategies and mindsets that click. When you finally land on an approach that feels custom-fit to your struggles and motivations, it’s a total game-changer. Suddenly, all those principles you’ve read about start making sense and you can put them into action. But how do you get to that light bulb moment?

Here are three tips that have helped me zero in on what works:

Get specific with your searches. Instead of just looking for “how to stop procrastinating,” tailor your keywords to your particular struggles. Searches like “break the cycle of procrastinating on budgeting” or “stop putting off meal-prepping” can surface way more relevant, game-changing advice.

Find your tribe. Thanks to the internet, you can connect with people working through the exact same challenges as you. Having that community support and pooling unique tips/strategies can be amazingly motivating.

Date before you marry. Just because a friend swears by time-blocking doesn’t mean it’ll be “the one” for you. Have an open mind and try different approaches until you find YOUR productivity soulmate. It’s okay to move on from tactics that aren’t a fit.

The biggest mindset shift for me was realizing that overcoming procrastination and building a proactive lifestyle is a very personal journey. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. But when you get radically self-aware and committed to experimenting, you WILL find the strategies and perspectives that finally click into place for you. That self-discovery is genuinely a game-changer!

Onward to a Proactive Mindset

We’ve explored how to break free from procrastination and cultivate a proactive mindset through self-awareness, actionable strategies, and finding your unique path. The journey requires patience, but the payoff is immense – feeling in control of your time, goals and priorities. In the next blog post, we’ll dive into building the core pillars to make your proactive transformation stick: discipline and confidence. Strengthening these two elements through practical strategies will be the one-two punch to leave procrastination behind for good.

See you next Thursday!

Today we have an interesting topic, and it’s one that may ruffle some feathers. We’re taking a brutal, no-holds-barred look at one of the most pervasive lies we tell ourselves to justify our procrastination habits: “I work better under pressure.”

The “Better Under Pressure” Lie: Deflating Procrastination’s Biggest Myth

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But Jen, haven’t my best performances always happened when I was scrambling against the clock? There’s just something about a looming deadline that supercharges my focus and productivity!” Well, I hate to break it to you, but that way of thinking is nothing more than a pervasive lie we tell ourselves to rationalize our procrastination habits. A flimsy excuse that conveniently ignores the harsh realities and very real consequences of last-minute time-crunching.

That’s right, folks – powering through important tasks at the very last second under intense pressure might give you a fleeting sense of heightened motivation and adrenaline-fueled hyperfocus. But I’m here to tell you that any perceived performance boost is outweighed tenfold by the negative impacts on work quality, creativity, overall well-being, and long-term productivity. Don’t believe me? Let’s look at the cold hard facts, shall we? Numerous research studies have shown that procrastinating until the last minute and working under acute time pressure leads to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout. Those aren’t exactly ideal conditions for producing your best work!

When you’re operating in a constant state of rushed panic, attention to detail gets sacrificed. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills take a nosedive. Innovative ideas and creative solutions get shelved in service of just “getting it done.” And at what cost? The rushed, slapdash results rarely live up to their full potential. And also let’s not overlook the far-reaching impacts that repeated bouts of intense, self-imposed time pressure can have on your overall well-being. From disrupted sleep and strained personal relationships to negative thought patterns and mental health struggles, habitual procrastination is a brutal cycle that keeps on taking.

The truth is, no matter how good you might think you are at “thriving” under pressure, every self-imposed time crunch comes at a price. With each hastily assembled project or half-baked idea, a little piece of your motivation, creativity, and self-worth gets chipped away. Wouldn’t you rather approach your tasks with a sense of calm, focused intention from the get-go? To have ample time to carefully consider all angles, explore innovative solutions, and produce your absolute best work? No self-imposed stressors, no desperate all-nighters, no frantic last-minute scrambles – just you operating at 100% capacity.

That’s the beauty of proactive time management and smart prioritization. By soberly assessing your obligations well in advance and creating an action plan you can actually stick to, you sidestep the vicious cycle of procrastination. No more relying on that fleeting “I work better under pressure” high to power you through! It all starts with having the courage to ditch that pervasive myth once and for all. To radically accept that pressure might give you a brief sense of heightened focus, but at a massive long-term cost to your creativity, well-being, and integrity of work. So go ahead, keep on using excuses to procrastinate – but I promise you, the time crunch way of operating is never worth the steep price you ultimately pay. Give yourself the gift of proactive time mastery, and watch in awe as your performance soars!

The next question you may be thinking… where should I start?

Overwhelming Overwhelm: Tackling Strategies That Work

Overwhelm-based procrastination is a vicious cycle that only breeds more stress, more anxiety, and a constant undercurrent of “I’m in over my head” dread. From compromised immunity and depression to full-blown anxiety attacks, letting that sense of being overburdened fester is basically self-sabotage of the highest order. But fear not, my burnt-out pals! I’ve got a few ultra-effective strategies up my sleeve to help you tackle overwhelm head-on before it has a chance to paralyze your productivity. No more hiding under the covers, no more endless avoidance loops – just good old-fashioned prioritizing, systematizing, and pro-active planning!

Step one: let’s get those unruly tasks wrangled into some kind of order, shall we? Might I recommend the ultra-satisfying number-folder filing system? Just snag 31 file folders (one for each day of the month), slap a number on each one, and start dropping those dreaded to-dos into their respective due date folders. Suddenly that endless list starts to feel a whole lot more manageable when it’s bucketed out day-by-day! For my tech readers, there are many task orientated apps and programs can assist with this.

Step two: Next up is the sacred nighttime routine – a non-negotiable ritual that’ll have you feeling poised and in-control for tomorrow’s onslaught. Spend 10-15 minutes each evening rounding up everything you and/ or your fam will need for the next day – clothes, supplies, permission slips, you name it – and place those puppies right by the front door. A little proactive prepping never hurt nobody!

Step three: Last but not least, we’ve got the good ol’ “attack, schedule, or delegate” technique. Anytime a new task lands in your lap (because we know there’s always another one coming), force yourself to immediately decide: am I attacking this sucker head-on ASAP? Scheduling it for a specific time/day in the near future? Or delegating that bad boy to someone else on the team? By cutting out the “I’ll deal with it…eventually” mindset, you’re proactively circumventing potential overwhelm.

The point is overwhelm might feel inevitable some days, but it doesn’t have to be! With a few savvy strategies for wrangling, prioritizing, and knocking out tasks in their tracks, you can break the cycle of avoidance and start chipping away at those endless lists. You might just have to get a little uncomfortable first to get things right…

Lean Into the Suck: Embracing Discomfort to Conquer Procrastination

I know, I know – the mere idea of leaning into discomfort and distasteful chores makes your skin crawl. Why on earth would you voluntarily subject yourself to that kind of overwhelm and un-fun when avoiding it is so easy? It’s called procrastination for a reason, right? But here’s the harsh truth: continuously shirking responsibilities and side-stepping anything remotely resembling hard work is a one-way ticket to Regretville. It breeds learned helplessness, sabotages your motivation, and deprives you of invaluable lessons in resilience and discipline.

The cold hard fact is that every single day serves up a hearty helping of stuff we’d rather not do. Whether it’s tackling that daunting work project, mustering the energy to workout, or scrubbing down those perpetually grimy bathroom tiles, distasteful tasks are an inevitable part of existing as a functional human. Now, you could moan and groan every step of the way, seeking temporary refuge in distraction and avoidance. OOOOOR you could make the bold choice to lean directly into that discomfort, staring it right in the eye and coming out stronger on the other side.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’ll be easy at first. Heck, it’ll probably feel like you’re being asked to construct an appropriately sized doghouse out of nothing but damp shoelaces and moldy crackers. Sheer misery! But here’s the secret – that excruciating discomfort doesn’t last forever. The more you commit to pushing through those distasteful tasks, the easier it’ll become to shut off the whiny inner monologue screaming for you to quit. With each challenge faced head-on, you’ll be actively rewiring those “this is too hard” instincts while building up reserves of discipline and perseverance.

Need a little extra motivation? Think about all the incredible daily badassery happening around you – the nurses persevering through unglamorous bodily fluid incidents, the trash collectors lugging around literal tons of stench every week, or stay-at-home parents locked in an endless battle against the ever-replenishing forces of household randomness, waging war daily on cluttered landscapes and sticky surfaces. All of them waking up and choosing to lean into the suck, day after day after day. And you know what ties all those resilient souls together? They’ve found deeper meaning and “reasons why” to embrace the less-than-pleasant aspects of their responsibilities. That sparkly clean house and fresh laundry? It’s about creating a comfortable living sanctuary. Cooking nutritious meals, despite the hassle? Fueling yourselves and your loved ones to live life to the fullest.

So go ahead, give it a try! The next time a distasteful task looms, don’t instinctively reach for your procrastination security blanket. Face that discomfort head-on, plow through with intense focus, and reward yourself with something pleasant once it’s conquered. Rinse and repeat, my friend, and I guarantee those once-miserable chores will start to lose their power over you. It’s all about leaning into the suck, processing that discomfort in a healthy way, and coming out the other side with a huge dose of hard-earned resilience. Who’s ready to turn procrastination into discipline?

The Path Forward

The myth of “working better under pressure” has been deeply ingrained in our culture, leading many to believe that procrastination is an acceptable, or even beneficial, work habit. However, as this blog series has demonstrated, this could not be further from the truth. Cultivating proactive time management, developing resilience in the face of unpleasant tasks, and normalizing discomfort are all essential steps towards unlocking our true potential. Next week’s blog post on “Stamping out the Stall” will dive even deeper into the first steps of this transformative journey.
